Common Questions

How does the What's My HEARTrisk? program work?

The What's My HEARTrisk? program begins with an online heart risk assessment. As you complete the assessment, your risk for heart disease is calculated according to the Framingham Model.

Depending upon your online risk assessment results, you may qualify for a free heart screening. You will be asked if you are interested in a follow-up heart screening. If you agree (and only if you agree), a representative will contact you within one business day to schedule a heart screening at a time and Memorial Health System location that's convenient for you.

The heart screening involves further tests to complete your Framingham score. If you are at moderate or high risk, it is recommended you see a physician. If you do not have a physician, a list of participating physicians is provided for you.

The online assessment and heart screening are free and confidential.

What is the Framingham Model?

The Framingham Test Study, a project of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and Boston University, is one of the most well-known and revered clinical research efforts to identify common factors that contribute to heart disease.

You can read more about the study at www.framinghamheartstudy.org.

Is participation confidential?

Yes. All information is between you and Memorial Health System.

What if the evaluation shows I'm at risk for heart disease?

A Memorial Health System representative will contact you and set up a 15- to 30-minute screening session with a cardiac clinician.

What happens at the heart screening?

You are given a painless blood test to check your cholesterol levels and your blood pressure is measured. The clinician will ask you about your medical history as it pertains to cardiac care.

Is there follow-up after the screening?

Yes, you will receive a confidential report. If the clinician thinks you should see a doctor about this, you will be referred to your family doctor or a cardiac specialist, all within the context of your medical plan.
